I was traveling from Kaduna to Ibadan, Nigeria with my wife and one year old child many years ago and we had to stop in one of the villages when the cry of my son became unbearable. He needed a break from the car, so I stopped the car and started taking a little walk with him to calm him down. Then I noticed a boy in the village where we had stopped who was almost the same age as my son. He was barely clothed and obviously not well fed. In that moment I said within me, if I dropped my son here and picked this boy as my son, I would have changed both destinies for ever. The village boy would today have all the opportunities and my biological son probably would have been dead or be in the village farming, with no access to the basic necessities of life. Then it dawned on me. It’s all a matter of privilege. Some of us are just privileged, but we can make our lives count like Job by extending that privilege to the less privileged. You cannot solve everybody’s problem, but you can make an impact in your own little way and help to advance the destinies of some less privileged.
